New kids get springtime welcome

SPRING has sprung at Graves Park Animal Centre in Sheffield – where seven baby goats were born last weekend.

Five of them – a set of twins and a set of triplets – are of the Anglo-Nubian breed and will grow to about three feet tall. The other two newborn kids are twin pygmies, which will grow to stand about 18in tall.

Head stocksman Chris Dyson said the goats would be put up for sale and added: ‘If we don’t sell the females then we usually keep them for breeding.

‘We’ve got some female pygmy goats that are 15 years old and still living here.’

Among the first to hold the young kids at the centre on Hemsworth Road in Norton were, from left to right, young visitors Elena Kerstiens,18, and 14-year-olds Isobelle Marciniak and Madeline Thurlow.
