New look for two-metre high letters at Leeds station

The Windows of Leeds letters, first installed nearly a year ago, provide artists with a platform to shine a light on Leeds’ visual art community while giving an unusual welcome to the city.

The inserts unveiled today are the work of Leeds College of Art graduate Abi Moffat, who has created an abstract and textured interpretation of the city.

Each letter has a different theme, from the changing culture of day to night-life, colours of the city, the variety of architecture, place and people, and the environment and weather.

Ms Moffat’s style enables people to interpret her work in an individual way and to see something of what Leeds means that is personal to them, which no-one else may see.

The original installation was funded by Leeds Business Improvement District and commissioned via Leeds City Council’s Unfold project, with support from Network Rail.

Andrew Cooper, LeedsBID Chief Executive, said: “We are delighted to be unveiling the next view for the Windows of Leeds and providing a public platform to showcase the city’s artistic talent to local, national and international visitors.”

Stephen Hind, Route Enhancements Manager at Network Rail, said: “We have really enjoyed having the Windows of Leeds letters and we look forward to all users of the station seeing the updated installation.”
