New park and ride facility proposed

PLANS for a new park and ride facility at Dore and Totley railway station have been submitted to Sheffield Council.

South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) has drawn up proposals for a 130-car and 20-cycle parking area on the site of the former Abbeydale Garden Centre.

If the plans are approved by councillors, the current access from Abbeydale Road South would be closed, with alterations made to the access at the southern end of the site.

A spokesman for SYPTE said: “During the period of public consultation SYPTE received more than 250 responses and a public event was held at Abbeydale Sports Club, which was attended by over 150 people.

“Following the consultation responses, a greater number of trees have been retained on site, with the creation of a softer, greener boundary in keeping with the area.

“It is hoped the park and ride facility would provide improved parking facilities for users of the railway station, as well as access improvements for pedestrians and cyclists, helping to relieve some of the long-standing parking issues in this area.”
