New police plea over blaze murder

THE detective leading the hunt for an arsonist who torched a house killing an 81-year-old woman said yesterday he remained committed to catching her killer.

Three years on from the death of Lea Brooke in Sandal, Wakefield, police are making a new appeal for people to come forward with information in a bid to solve the crime.

Mrs Brooke, a widowed mother-of-five, died after white spirit was poured through the letterbox of her Sandal Grange Farm home causing a blaze at her property in the early hours of Monday November 10, 2008.

Det Supt David Pervin, of the force’s homicide and major enquiry team, who is leading the inquiry, said: “Lea was a lovely lady who was well liked in the local community and had all her family around her. While her family may be trying to move on they are still desperate to find out who was responsible for her death.

“The family cannot rest and move on as much as they may try with the knowledge that their mother’s murderer is still out there. I myself will not stop until the murderer is caught and brought to justice,” he added.

Anyone with information should call police on 0845 6060606.
