New speed limits for county roads

MORE than 50 new speed limits will be created across North Lincolnshire in the next three years following a council review.

North Lincolnshire Council carried out a review of the speed limits on all A and B roads earlier this year, taking into account accident statistics, traffic speeds, traffic volumes and the local environment.

The council consulted town and parish councils, the emergency services, motoring organisations, bus and haulage companies and others during the research and has now decided to create new speed limits on certain routes at 30mph, 40mph and 50mph, with 51 new speed limits in total.

Coun Nigel Sherwood, Cabinet member for highways and neighbourhoods, said the priority was improving safety on the borough’s roads.

He said: “We have focused our priorities on those roads with the most pressing problems of collisions and injuries or where there is widespread disregard for current speed limits.

“It is important we get the right speed limits in North Lincolnshire to carry out our road safety duty. We have had many different views expressed about the speed limit review and all comments have been taken into consideration.”
