New statue of The Beatles unveiled in Liverpool

To honour the legacy of Fab Four, a new statue of the Beatles has unveiled in the city, depicting John Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr in their glorious 1960s hey day when their music conquered the world.

Unveiled by Lennon’s sister Julia Baird outside the Liverbuilding, in Liverpool, the sculpture has been gifted to the city by the legendary Cavern Club, the venue where The Beatles were discovered.

The team at the Cavern wanted to acknowledge how synonymous the band is with the city, and the new addition to the waterfront will undoubtedly prove to be a must-visit location for fans across the world.

Cast in bronze and weighing 1.2 tonnes it shows the band walking along the banks of River Mersey.

Today marks 50 years since the band last played in Liverpool and comes ahead of the 35th anniversary of Lennon’s assassination in New York City on December 8.

Ms Baird, said: “The statue stands in loving memory of the best band in the world.”
