New window for theft-hit church

A CHURCH community which has suffered a winter of cold winds after thieves stole lead from a window has celebrated the installation of its replacement.

Stolen lead and a rotting wooden frame had left the window at St James’ Church, in New Farnley, Leeds, draughty and unstable.

However grants from local ward councillors and the Veolia Environmental Trust have allowed the church to pay for a new uPVC window costing £3,786.

The Rev Kingsley Dowling, above, the priest in charge, said the window looked beautiful and provided the added benefit of improving the temperature and energy efficiency.
