Newlywed dies in garden pond tragedy after fit

A newlywed has been left "devastated" after her husband died six weeks after their dream wedding in the Caribbean.

Dean Kerr, 27, drowned in their garden pond after suffering an epileptic fit on December 29.

Mr Kerr's new bride, Sharleigh, 21, found him lying face down in the water after he had been clearing out the Christmas rubbish.

The couple, from Taunton, married six-and-a-half weeks before in Cuba.

Speaking to the Somerset County Gazette, she said: "He'd gone outside to bag everything up.

"I went out, looked around and saw him lying in the pond.

"We're devastated, although it hasn't registered yet."

The mother-of-two described her husband as a happy, bubbly, family man.

Her four-year-old daughter Ruby watched as she pulled her husband from the water, but the widow said their 21-month-old son Reggie was too young to understand what had happened.

Mr Kerr, who worked at a local egg factory, suffered his first epileptic fit when he was 17.

An inquest has been opened and adjourned.

Coroner's officer Richard Davies said: "The post-mortem confirmed the cause of death was drowning due to an epileptic fit."
