HYPEROPTIC’S NEXT generation fibre broadband is launching in Yorkshire today as the technology is rolled out in the North for the first time.

Leeds, Manchester and Liverpool, are the next three cities to receive the provider’s gigabit fibre optic broadband.

Hyperoptic is the fastest broadband in the UK, delivering fibre all the way to the building. The majority of fibre broadband providers only offer fibre-to-the-cabinet broadband, which is currently capable of delivering 76Mb download speeds.

Hyperoptic said it is investing millions in broadband infrastructure in Leeds to enable 1,000Mb broadband speeds. It has a dedicated network via agreements with wholesale leased lines.

A spokeswoman said: “The connection into the house is still delivered over outdated telephone copper cables, which is why customers experience undependable performance, peak-time slowdowns and barriers to fully utilising their connections.”

Hyperoptic said it focuses on bringing its services to developments of flats based on demand. Once enough residents have registered their interest, the company arranges the installation, working with the building owners/managers.

It has already launched its services in blocks of flats in London, Cardiff, Reading and Bristol.

Managing director Dana Tobak said: “We are committed to providing Leeds with a real broadband alternative that is the best in the market today in both terms of speed and online experience. You get what you pay for. Anytime. All the time. Full Stop. We are building the consumers-choice broadband company, a trusted utility that customers can depend upon.”

Hyperoptic, which was launched in 2011, was founded by the same team that launched Be Broadband in 2005. Be was sold to O2 in 2007 for £50m.

Last year it had an equity investment of £50m, led by Soros Fund Management, to fuel its UK expansion. It is aiming to pass 500,000 homes by 2018.

Communications Minister Ed Vaizey said: “Cutting-edge technology is the foundation for growth and innovation and today’s announcement is fantastic news for Leeds.”
