Next generation of traders set out their stall at Meadowhall

STUDENTS from schools across the region were at Meadowhall shopping centre in Sheffield this weekend to get a taste of the business world.

The students, aged 15 to 19, are taking part in the Young Enterprise Company Programme, which sets them the challenge of launching and running their own real company over the course of the academic year.

On Saturday they had their first chance to sell their wares to the general public, and set up stall outside Marks & Spencer in the shopping centre.

Kevin Donnelly, development manager at Young Enterprise Yorkshire and Humber, said: “The students had the opportunity to make money from their products and services and demonstrate the hard work they have put into the programme over the past few months.

“It gave them a unique taste of the world of enterprise and entrepreneurship.”

Jackie Freeborn from Business and Education South Yorkshire said the day was “a great opportunity for young people to show just what talent they have for the business world”.

Those schools involved included Birkdale School, Tapton School, Sheffield High School, Wingfield Business and Enterprise College in Rotherham and McAuley Catholic High School in Doncaster.
