NHS to offer stress-buster course

MENTAL health specialists are to offer a five-week course to people in Rotherham who feel that the stress of modern life is making them ill.

According to Health and Safety Executive statistics, stress is believed to trigger 70 per cent of visits to doctors and 85 per cent of serious illnesses.

The Rotherham, Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust is running the free course on Thursday evenings from September 8, at the Central Library in the town centre.

A psychological wellbeing practitioner in the trust’s primary care mental health team, Kerry Saunderson, said: “The stress control classes are beneficial for anyone looking to learn how to manage unhelpful stress symptoms. The workshop helps people identify their own thoughts, feelings and behaviours about stress. By the end of the course participants will be able to begin managing stress better and start to adapt their thinking and behaviour styles.”

The classes are available to anyone over the age of 18 who is registered with a GP in Rotherham and has stress-related issues. People wishing to take part can ask their GP for a referral or call 01709 302630.
