NHS trust seeks council members

PEOPLE in Barnsley are being asked to apply to join the Members’ Council at South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, which provides community and mental health services.

Four new members are needed at the council, which represents 14,000 members of the Trust across Barnsley, Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield.

The council’s role is to make sure that the Trust’s board of directors is accountable to the community.

It is made up of elected representatives and meets a minimum of four times a year.

When community and mental health services in Barnsley joined the Trust in May 2011, it was agreed that four public seats on the Members’ Council should be filled by people from Barnsley.

Applications should be made by Tuesday, June 14, and nominated individuals must be a member of South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

Trust chairman Joyce Catterick said: “The Members’ Council is a vital part of the Trust as it ensures members are involved in improvements to services and that local people have a continued voice in the organisation to influence decisions.”
