Culture lovers were on the crest of a wave last night as Leeds staged its annual Light Night arts celebration.
More than 30 venues across the city held a wide range of events from 5pm until late yesterday. One of the most eye-catching parts of the programme was Opera North’s new Sea Interludes installation, at the Howard Assembly Room involving production manager Tobias Melville, above, Inspired by Benjamin Britten opera Peter Grimes, it used music, films and props to bring a flavour of life at sea to Leeds city centre. Light Night was staged by Leeds City Council in partnership with local cultural organisations.
Highlights included arts group Illuminos’s ambitious transformation of the front of Leeds Civic Hall into a giant animated clock, an event that will be repeated tonight from 7.30pm to 10.30pm. Picture: Tony Johnson.
