Night of thanks for Larkin support

Events marking the 25th anniversary of the death of Philip Larkin officially end today.

Films, musical performances, poetry and artwork created as part of the Larkin25 commemorative programme are being showcased this evening at Fruit on Humber Street in the city.

A 25,000 cheque – raised from the grand auction of the Larkin Toads held in September – will be handed to Lord Mayor David Gemmell for his Charity Appeal Fund: Alzheimer's Research Trust and Parkinson's Disease UK.

Funds are also being awarded to the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust in recognition of their work to support habitats for amphibians in the region and to establish a new arts fund for Hull and the East Riding.

Director of Larkin25 Emily Penn said: "It's a chance for us to thank everyone who has contributed to the success of the programme, which has encouraged many more people to discover and enjoy Larkin's creative achievements, attracted new people to this part of the world, and really raised the cultural profile of Hull and the East Riding."

Places at the event, which starts at 7pm, are limited. To check availability call 01482 486541 or email [email protected]
