Nightclub makes way for event space

A FORMER nightclub is being knocked down in Scunthorpe to create a larger area to stage events.

Speciality markets and a larger Christmas light switch-on will take place on the site of the former Club 2000, next door to the town's art gallery.

North Lincolnshire Council bought the building for an undisclosed sum in 2007, to secure the space, a key part of the Town Centre Master Plan, and hopes the demolition, also funded by the taxpayer, will pave the way for future investment.

The vacated space will be block-paved after demolition, expected to take about four weeks. The Christmas lights will be switched on from Thursday November 18.

The council will be trying to attract developers when officials attend the British Council for Shopping Centres (BCSC) Conference in November.
