Nine stowaways found in van go back to Holland

NINE stowaways found hiding in the back of a van as it came off a ferry in Hull have been returned to Holland.

The men, who were hidden among clothing and claimed to be from Kuwait, had travelled overnight on the Pride of Rotterdam.

They were arrested by UK Border Agency officers during a routine search and sent back to Holland after questioning.

The van driver and a passenger, aged 53 and 69 and both from the UK, are being held on suspicion of facilitating illegal entry to the UK.

Andy Lumb, assistant director for border controls, said: “Finds such as this one highlight the determination and expertise required by UK Border Agency officers to stay one step ahead of illegal immigration.”
