Earlier this month donkey owner John Nuttall said he was considering removing his animals from the beach at Cleethorpes after they were kicked in the face, put in headlocks, hit with pieces of wood and ridden bare-back while resting.

Humberside Police said officers had spoken to a boy from Grimsby who was “potentially involved” with the donkey attacks, as well as a number of incidents of anti-social behaviour which led to complaints by shopkeepers in the resort.

The force declined to say what action had been taken by the boy’s mother.

A spokeswoman said: “Officers attended the home address of the boy and he was spoken to in the presence of his mother, who ensured that he was suitably punished for his actions.

“No further action was required by police.”

In a separate incident, police are continuing to investigate a report that donkeys at the Country Park in Humberston, near Grimsby, may have been assaulted by a boy.

Police were called at 7.25pm on Wednesday, July 24, but failed to find the offender.

The suspect is aged between 12 and 14, has a tanned complexion and is described as stocky. He was believed to have a purple BMX bike.
