No codding - a foot spa full of live fish: VIDEO

FOR many people being eaten alive by sea creatures would be the stuff of nightmares.

But so-called "fish spas" for pedicure-perfect feet are the latest trend in the beauty world, and the first in the UK opened its doors at Meadowhall in Sheffield yesterday.

Founder of "Appy Feet", Christina Wright, was inspired to bring the idea to the UK after seeing the craze while on holiday in Okinawe, Japan.

"It's prolific in the Far East and, after seeing the fish spas on holiday, I couldn't stop talking about it when I got home," she said. "I then made it my mission to educate myself about the fish, which was quite difficult as nobody over here knew anything about it."

The treatment involves people putting their feet into tanks of Turkish Garra Rufa fish, which then nibble away at dead skin and leave feet healthy and soft.

Ms Wright, who describes herself as a "serial entrepreneur" said the 10 price tag for a 10-minute treatment was designed to attract everyone, not just the elite.

She added: "Not everyone has 100 to spend on a full day in a spa."
