No crane, no gain

THIS mobile crane, one of the largest in Europe, will swing into action tomorrow to lift a huge road bridge into place over the East Coast Main Line in Yorkshire.

Network Rail have granted Doncaster Council a 48-hour period to carry out the bridge lift, which forms part of the town’s £30m Southern Gateway project.

The 600ft bridge will allow the existing White Rose Way, which links the town centre with the M18, to be made into a dual carriageway.

Council engineers said the road will be closed both tomorrow and Boxing Day to allow the work to take place.

A spokesman for Doncaster Council said: “The new bridge is part of the first of two phases of work and should be open for traffic in November 2012”
