Likewise, the Milds are rare birds and only likely to be seen in working men’s clubs and dedicated real ale pubs.

A Carlsberg spokesman said: “A decision on where they will be brewed will be announced at a later date.’’

But Bob Stukins, CAMRA Vice-Chairman, and Yorkshire resident, said: ‘‘Carlsberg don’t do geography lessons, but if they did they’d clearly realise the impact this move will have on the pub-going community in Yorkshire.’’

John Grogan MP said: ‘’The least (Carlsberg) could do now is to consider very seriously proposals for at least part of their Leeds site to be sold off to another independent brewer.”
