‘No point in living’, so man followed his lover in plunge from Leeds tower block

A MAN who saw his girlfriend fall to her death told police officers there was no point living without her and leapt after her, a coroner’s court heard today.

Steven Parker, 23, saw Kiran Creevy, 20, fall from the 12th floor of a tower block.

He then told two police constables who were trying to talk him down, “What is the point if she is dead?”, before leaping to his death, Leeds Coroner’s Court heard in two separate inquests.

In a 999 call in the early hours of August 31 last year, Miss Creevy, who was also known as “Kizzy” Beecher, told police the couple were going to commit suicide and they had called to make sure their bodies would be cleaned up.

After 11 minutes, officers arrived at Clyde Court in the Armley area of Leeds, made their way to the flat, and tried to persuade the couple to climb down from separate window ledges.

Miss Creevy and Mr Parker told them to back away, before falling in turn, leaving behind suicide notes, Detective Sergeant Paul Campbell said.

The court heard that Miss Creevy and Mr Parker had been alcoholics who suffered from depression and anxiety.

Coroner David Hinchcliff described Miss Creevy as “an extremely bright girl” who had “got into the wrong crowd and her life started going downhill when she was drinking”.

In a statement read out in court, Miss Creevy’s mother Lisa Beecher said her daughter had called her about 20 minutes before the 999 call to tell her she was on the window ledge.

Ms Beecher said: “I thought she was being dramatic.”

But she went to the block of flats later to check on her daughter, only to find the aftermath of her death.

“I decided to drive down to the flats to see if she was all right and saw all the activity with the police and ambulance,” said Ms Beecher.

The court heard Mr Parker had mounting personal problems and had started a relationship with another woman.

But in a statement read out in court, his mother Debbie Cohen said: “Steven’s heart was always with Kizzy but he was torn between them.

“Steven spoke to me about his relationship problems and he wanted to be with Kizzy.”

Toxicology reports showed the couple were both around two-and-a-half times the legal drink-drive limit on the night they died.

Mr Parker had enough paracetamol in his blood to cause liver failure and death, while Miss Creevy had taken some but it was not a fatal amount.

Mr Hinchcliff said: “Steven was a troubled young man beset by problems. He had clearly formed this plan with Kiran.

“What persuades me that this was a deliberate, intentional act is I believe he could have gone back to safety and unfortunately he chose not to do that.”

The coroner recorded a verdict of suicide for Mr Parker.

After questioning from Miss Creevy’s family, Mr Hinchcliff and Mr Campbell said they could not be sure that she jumped from the window ledge.

But Mr Hinchcliff said: “She has allowed herself to fall from the window.”

Mr Parker and Miss Creevy died from multiple injuries sustained from a fall.

The coroner recorded a narrative verdict.
