And as the nation prepares to stare into the skies on another November 5th bonfire night, it is worth pondering just how far the process has come.

This video footage offers us a glimpse into history at a Huddersfield fireworks factory as staff prepared to make things go with a bang.

In one scene, the fireworks can be seen being tested in a field full of chickens, although we don't think they look too impressed.

East Yorkshire

Beverley: Beverley Lions Bonfire and Fireworks Display, Beverley Westwood. Bonfire lit at 7.15pm followed by spectacular fireworks display starting at 7­.45pm.

Leyburn: Bonfire and Fireworks Night. Spectacular event lighting up the sky over Leyburn Shawl.

South Yorkshire

Sheffield: After Dark, Don Valley Grass Bowl. Live Music, funfair, bonfire, food stalls, bar and a massive fireworks display set to music. 5.30pm start; bonfire at 7.30pm.

Fair rides, free face painting, children’s entertainment and a DJ are on offer at the free event. Spectators are asked not to take their own fireworks.

November 7

Driffield: Driffield Town Council and Driffield Agricultural Society presents a Bonfire and Firework Spectacular with activities for all ages, food and drink, fun fair and more. Driffield Showground, 4.30pm-9pm. Adults £3, children £1.

Dunnington: Bonfire and Fireworks Display with live music and beer tent. Eastfield Showfield, gates open 4.45pm, bonfire lit 5.30pm and fireworks 6.30pm. Tickets £8 from.dunningtonfayre.org.uk, D&Y Taylor Butchers and Station House Day Nursery.

South Yorkshire

Sheffield: Organised by scouts from Sharrow’s St Andrews group, this event in Chelsea Park is always popular with families and starts at 5.15pm. Includes fireworks and a bonfire.

Sheffield: 20th Sheffield Scout Group hosts its annual bonfire and firework display at Common Lane park land from 7pm. Hot food and refreshments will be available. Tickets are £3 in advance or £4 on the night.

Sheffield: The Old Rectory in Handsworth is hosting a bonfire and fireworks from 5.30pm, with fireworks at 7pm.

An indoor bar, inside bouncy castle, hotdog stall and fairground rides will be included. Tickets cost £3.00.

Sheffield: A party organised by Dore Scouts will be held on Parker’s Lane field off Rushley Road in Dore. Gates will open at 6.30 pm and the bonfire will be lit at 7.15 pm.

The fireworks will start at about 7.30pm,

Food including burgers, jacket potatoes, teas, coffees and soft drinks will be on offer. Entry £3 per head, children free.

Sheffield: Bonfire from 6pm and two sets of fireworks at 7pm and 8pm at the Dronfield Woodhouse Recreation Ground. Stalls include a barbecue, hog roast, pizza oven, curry stall, jacket potatoes and a bouncy castle as well as rides.

Adult tickets cost £5 in advance or £7 on the night.

Children £2.50 in advance or £3 on the day.
