Although the Hollywood star, nominated for best supporting actress for her role in the Sessions, may have been wearing a high street brand she combined this with Hollywood glamour as she wore diamonds reportedly worth around $700,000.

Sally Field appeared in a southern belle style red ruffled chiffon gown by Italian Valentino Garavani while Amy Adams, who was nominated for an Oscar for best supporting actress for her role in The Master, arrived in a custom made Oscar de la Renta dove grey gown with a full ruffled princess skirt.

Other stars being praised at the biggest event in the red carpet calendar included Jessica Chastain who wore an Armani Prive dress and Eddie Redmayne who combined an Alexander McQueen tuxedo with a pair of velvet slippers.
