They can be viewed at Experience Barnsley museum and discovery centre at Barnsley town hall.

Councillor Roy Miller, Cabinet spokesperson for development, environment and culture, said the logbooks formed a complete and detailed history of the school over many years.

“Logbooks were the daily diary of the school, recording events, activities, absences, inspections and commemorations for national events – even the weather,” he said.

Also included in the collection are admission registers, dating back to 1916, recording thousands of pupils who attended the school. There are also plans of the building, accounts and an early punishment register.

Coun Miller added: “The collection is fascinating and the new catalogue has made it much easier to access this part of Great Houghton’s education history.”

The Experience Barnsley collection has records of over 100 Barnsley schools.
