Nuisance man fined in late-night noise clash

A MAN who drove his neighbours to distraction playing rhythm and blues, house and Gwen Stefani hits, has been fined.

Life is quieter for people living in Estcourt Street in east Hull after the local authority prosecuted Roland Wood for noise nuisance.

Hull Council's out-of-hours team were called out by neighbours who had to suffer loud TV and music blaring out late at night.

After Wood refused to comply with a noise abatement order and continued making a din, council officers took out a warrant to seize equipment, including 11 TVs, a DVD player and hi-fis.

Wood pleaded guilty to five breaches of the abatement notice when he appeared at Hull Magistrates Court this week.

He was fined 100, ordered to a pay 15 victim surcharge and 300 costs. The court also made a forfeiture order in respect of the seized goods.

The case was Hull City Council's 16th successful prosecution for excessive noise since 2005. Over the last five years council officers have seized more than 100 pieces of noise-making equipment.

The council's portfolio holder for community safety, Mike Ross, said: "The noise in this case was having a damaging effect on the neighbours' quality of life.

"While it will never be the case that there is no noise or any form of disturbance, everybody is entitled to enjoy their home or garden without being disturbed by excessive noise.

"People should not suffer in silence.

If talking it over amicably with your neighbour doesn't work, then contact the council because it can investigate the matter and act accordingly."
