Hide AdAcademies are state schools which are funded directly from the Government and have greater freedoms over their curriculum, timetable, admissions and employment arrangements.
Originally academies were set up by the last Government to replace failing schools.
New figures show there are now 23 academies in Yorkshire which have replaced existing schools and 10 outstanding schools which have converted.
