Number of pensioners in countryside set to soar
A quarter of people living in the English countryside by 2020 will be pensioners, figures revealed.
The number of over-65s living in rural areas will go up by almost 40 per cent in the next decade to 3.23 million, the National Housing Federation predicts.
But the campaign group warned communities will struggle to support the growing ageing population unless more affordable homes are built.
