Nursery and children’s centre rated ‘outstanding’

St Edmund’s Nursery School and Children’s Centre was given the highest possible score in almost every aspect of its work by the education watchdog.

The Bradford councillor responsible for education described it as “the best Ofsted report he has ever read in the city.”

The nursery has been judged to be outstanding for a second time and the children’s centre on the same site has also received Ofsted’s highest ranking for its first inspection.

The nursery is based in inner-city Girlington. The majority of its pupils speak English as a second language. St Edmund’s also has a base for 20 pupils with complex learning difficulties.

The report says that children’s achievement in the nursery, the childcare and the provision for children with special needs are all outstanding.

The nursery report also praises partnership with parents, children’s understanding of how to keep safe and the promotion of community cohesion.

Chairman of Governors Mairead Hinchliffe said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have sustained our outstanding status in the nursery and to have been judged outstanding in the first inspection of our Children’s Centre provision.”

Coun Ralph Berry, Bradford Council’s executive member for Children and Young People’s Services, said: “This is an exceptional achievement for the Nursery school and the Children’s Centre.

“The glowing reports are well-deserved accolades for St Edmund’s and the local community.

“Children, staff, parents, governors and everyone involved in bringing about this outcome should be congratulated and be very proud.

“This exceptionally caring, safe and supportive school is reflected in the commitment of everyone to promoting excellence.”
