OBE for stalwart trade unionist

Rotherham Council leader Roger Stone, an elected Labour member since 1988, receives an OBE for services to local government.

He became leader in 2003 and in December 2005 government inspectors rated the Rotherham as the most improved metropolitan council in the country. He has been a trade unionist for nearly 30 years and was elected President of the Iron and Steel Trades Confederation in 1990/1991.
