Obesity fears for sofa generation

The rise of childhood obesity and snubbing nature for televisions and computers has led to fears that children are being robbed of a healthy active childhood.

Most children though would like to spend more time playing unsupervised in the countryside, and most parents agree.

The study also showed if children are able to experience nature, they care more about it and want to conserve it.

Last year the National Trust launched a campaign to get children off the sofa and playing outside.

Recent research has found that children who play outside for an average of 90 minutes per day in good weather have less risk of heart trouble later in life.
