Edward Horkin

FatherHorkin was born in the United Stateson November 7, 1919, but brought to England shortly after his birth.He studied for the priesthood at Saint Cuthbert's College, Ushaw, before being ordained at Leeds Cathedral in April 1946.

Father Horkin spent three months at Saint Clare's, Bradford, before serving as a curate at Christ the King, Bramley, from September 1946 until 1949 when he took up an appointment as curate at Our Lady and All Saints, Otley.

In February 1954, he took up an appointment with the Catholic Mission Society, living at the Mission House in London. Father Horkin returned to the diocese in September 1955 at which time he took up an appointment as curate at Burley-in-Wharfedale until October 1960 when he moved to Saint Robert's, Harrogate, where he served as curate until August 1963.

In August 1963 Father Horkin was appointed parish priest of Dunsop Bridge, where he served until August 1964.He was parish priest of the new parish of Saint Michael's, Knottingley, from August 1964 until October 1968. From October 1968, Father Horkin served as parish priest of Saint Joseph's, Pudsey, until his retirement in 1997. In retirement Father Horkin continued to live in Pudsey.

Requiem Mass was celebrated by the Rt Rev Arthur Roche, Bishop of Leeds, on Thursday followed by interment at Killingbeck Cemetery.
