Ken Green

KEN Green, the president of Barnsley Cricket Club, died this week. His innings serving the club lasted more than 50 years.

He first joined Barnsley Cricket Club in the late 1940s. He has held a variety of posts within the club and had been a member of the committee for at least 50 years. His enthusiasm was boundless and he was always the first at any meetings in his last role of president of the

club.

Ken laid the first brick in the club's 500,000 pavilion project and was there when the last one was laid 12 months later and several hundred bacon sandwiches later (Ken was the chef as well).

Despite the loss of his wife a few years ago and failing health, Ken continued in his role as Mr Barnsley Cricket Club and woe betide anyone who stepped out of line.

A keen bowler and supporter of Barnsley Football and Rugby Clubs, Ken died on Tuesday morning.

He is survived by his son David and daughter Julie, and their respective families.
