Offenders to help clean up estate

CONVICTED offenders will help to clean parts of a Bradford estate next week as part of a police scheme.

Those taking part in the Community Payback Scheme will be helping staff from Bradford Council to sweep some civic pride into Chellwood Drive and the Walks in Allerton as part of a day of action on July 14 organised by the North Bradford Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT).

Neighbourhood police officers will also be on the streets during the day in response to concerns about off-road motorcyclists.

Inspector Steve Greenbank, of the North Bradford NPT, said: "For the past two years now we have been basing our policing priorities on the priorities of our residents and we have found this is an approach that works and is popular. To do this though, we need to keep completely up to date with residents' needs so I would ask as many people as possible in the area to spare us five minutes to speak on the day."

Insp Greenbank said he knew off-road bikes and speeding remained issues.

Residents who wish to speak to officers can attend a briefing at Lower Grange Community Centre from 10am next Wednesday.
