Officer 'delighted' by latest promotion

Superintendent Pat Casserly is taking on the role of head of neighbourhood policing teams and partnerships.

He replaces Ingrid Lee who has been promoted to chief superintendent and moved on to the force's crime division.

During his career in South Yorkshire, Superintendent Casserly spent time as a commander at Hillsborough football ground and during the Sheffield floods.

He joined West Yorkshire Police in 2008 and project managed its part in the national Quest programme to eliminate waste and bureaucracy by reviewing all business processes. He is the north east lead for mental health and policing in addition to his role in Wakefield.

Superintendent Casserly, 47, said: "I am delighted about this posting to Wakefield district division where I have the opportunity to consolidate my previous operational experience and engagement with partnerships who are motivated to make Wakefield a safer place to live and work."

Since joining the force he has been a commander at various events, visits and protests throughout the region including the Leeds Music Festival and a recent cabinet visit.

Before he arrived in West Yorkshire, Superintendent Casserly spent most of his career in South Yorkshire.

He began his service in 1986 in Bristol where he spent four years before moving north to work as a police constable in Sheffield. He was promoted to the role of sergeant in 1997 working in Cudworth supervising a patrol group.

Superintendent Casserly led a street crime initiative in Sheffield which reduced robberies by 67 per cent.

As part of his role as chief inspector, he worked with the youth offending team to create a gun crime reduction scheme to identify youths at risk of getting involved in gun crime.
