Officers hunt for post office robber

Officers were yesterday hunting an armed robber who got away with a large amount of cash after holding up a seaside Post Office.

The man, who was wearing a balaclava, threatened staff with what is believed to be a firearm during the raid on Monday evening on the Post Office in the Premier Convenience Store on Cliff Road in Hornsea.

No shots were fired and nobody was injured, the police said.

Officers have been in the area carrying out searches and speaking to witnesses.

A man who was wearing dark gloves, blue jeans, a black jacket and possibly brown work boots, was picked up on CCTV cameras. He entered the store’s rear yard area shortly after the Post Office closed for business before threatening staff.

Detective Inspector Emma Heatley said: “It is likely someone will know something about this robbery, whether you have unknowingly walked past a pair of discarded gloves or you have possibly witnessed someone acting suspicious around the time of the robbery nearby the post office.”
