Old bell tolls again for school

A Bradford school stepped back in time yesterday when the old school bell rang out to mark the beginning and end of the day.

The bell, which is dated 1873, was found in the basement of Woodlands Church of England Primary School in Oakenshaw, and it was blessed yesterday by the Bishop of Bradford, David James, when he visited the school, above.

Headteacher Andrew Wilcock, said: "After finding the bell we asked parents whether it should be placed on view for all to see or re-hung and rung for the local community to hear, and they were very keen for it to be heard again. So the bell is rung on a daily basis to indicate the beginning and the end of the day."
