One council easily able to spend a penny

Members of a council in one of Yorkshire’s best-loved tourist destinations are unlikely to be caught short after plans were announced to convert a public toilet into its office.

The public conveniences at Bank Top, Robin Hood’s Bay, were threatened with closure but members of Fylingdales Parish Council protested they were vital to the fishing village’s tourists and residents.

Now Scarborough’s Borough Council’s cabinet is being recommended to transfer the toilet to the parish council on a 125-year lease at a peppercorn rent. The council also plans to give £5,000 towards refurbishing the loo. The parish council plans to upgrade the block, with the present ladies becoming an office and store.
