One dead as snow cripples transport in East Yorkshire

COMMUTERS in East Yorkshire faced a nightmare journey this morning as snow and ice returned to the region.

A man was killed whe a lorry jack-knifed on the M6s, closing the motorway between junction 37 at Howden and junction 38 at North Cave.

Police set up diversions as congestion built up on surrounding roads. The motorway is expected to remain closed for much of Wednesday.

A police spokeswoman said it was believed several passing vehicles may have seen the collision, about one-a-half-miles from North Cave, and urged these witnesses to come forward.

The spokeswoman added that severe weather conditions were causing extensive tailbacks across East Yorkshire and warned motorists to only drive in an emergency.

On the Humber Bridge, one lane was closed southbound after another accident involving a lorry.
