One more battle to wage as Hague back on election trail

FOREIGN Secretary William Hague was in Yorkshire yesterday to campaign for a final General Election battle which was delayed after the death of one of the candidates.

Mr Hague, MP for Richmond, joined Conservative Party candidate Anne McIntosh as she sought re-election in the newly-created Thirsk and Malton constituency in North Yorkshire.

The pair met local traders in the centre of Thirsk and visited the town's auction market as part of the campaign trail.

The count had to be pushed back three weeks until Thursday next week following the death of John Boakes, who was standing for the UK Independence Party. UKIP has now chosen Toby Horton, who lives near Northallerton, as its candidate.

The other candidates for the Thirsk and Malton constituency are John Clark for the Liberal Party, Howard Keal for the Liberal Democrats and Jonathan Roberts for Labour.
