Bank Holiday in October could boost tourism – The Yorkshire Post says

THESE ARE the toughest of times for the tourism industry and more so in counties like Yorkshire which have so much to offer visitors from far and wide, hence The Deep aquarium, integral to Hull’s revival, seeking a £700,000 Government-backed loan.

Yet a consequence of the lockdown is greater awareness and appreciation about the number of people who work in the sector and tourism’s contribution to the economic wealth and social health of Great Britain plc. This is evidenced by Visit Britain proposing an extended Bank Holiday weekend to coincide with the October half-term.

However, while much will depend on the country’s ability between now and then to control the spread of Covid-19, it is the type of idea that could make all the difference to some venues, B&B businesses and so on being able to stay afloat or not.

And it is also why tourism should be integral to Britain’s economic plans rather than being treated as an after-thought at the Culture department.
