Devoid of any acrimony witnessed at annual meetings of yesteryear, it did, however, witness a welcome moment of history when Janet Bairstow became the club’s first female vice president. Mrs Bairstow, whose late and much missed husband David played for the county, is a familiar figure on the cricket circuit supporting her son Jonny, England’s World Cup-winning batsman.

But what many people will not appreciate is that she has also been a longstanding cricket administrator whose expertise was much respected by the wider cricketing family.

And as Yorkshire’s outgoing president Robin Smith observed after her election, a “significant threshold” has now been crossed. Let us hope, also, that it is not the last.
