Enduring appeal of The Avengers – The Yorkshire Post says
It celebrates its 60th anniversary this evening with a retrospective screening, and serves to remind us how far we have come in terms of dramatic representation.
But it would be unwise to fete The Avengers as a show ahead of its time, for its creation was little more than an accident. The character of Cathy Gale, as played by the late Honor Blackman, was originally written for a male actor, and when it was recast at the last minute, there was no time to rewrite the dialogue or the action scenes.
