How Morrisons became best in Britain again – The Yorkshire Post says

HOW times change. A decade ago, there was a reluctance on the part of Morrisons to clearly label British produce and support UK farmers.

Five years ago, many were questioning the store’s strategy after it became obsessed with fads like in-store fruit and veg misting machines.

Now, with chief executive David Potts looking to increase sales of British goods in the wake of Brexit, there’s a sense that Morrisons is – once again – Yorkshire’s supermarket after enjoying a marked revival in its fortunes since his appointment in 2015.

His ‘back to basics’ approach was already paying dividends before the Covid pandemic provided an unexpected windfall for the supermarket, as exemplified by the firm’s Christmas results.

But it is not just the financial bottom line – the willingness of Morrisons to allow some of its car parks to be used as Covid vaccine centres is further evidence of a community-focused retail giant very much back in touch with its roots.
