International race recognition for York in surreal year – The Yorkshire Post says

IT is paradoxical that the best two minutes of Flat racing in the world last year was witnessed by just a handful of people on York’s Knavesmire when Ghaiyyath won the Juddmonte International under William Buick amid surreal scenes.

Yet, while this mesmerising performance of equine brilliance deserved a typically rapturous and generous York ovation, public health comes first and the continuing absence of spectators at all race meetings is a small price to pay to ensure that the sport continues to captivate and charm on a daily basis.

But official confirmation that the 2020 renewal of the Juddmonte was, based on official ratings of the first four runners past the post, the pre-eminent horse race in the world is testament to the team at York for years of work building up the profile of the Ebor festival.
