Litter; let’s vow to Keep Britain Tidy (or tidier) – The Yorkshire Post says

IT is said a picture is worth a thousand words or, in this case, the thought-provoking illustration by The Yorkshire Post’s gifted Graeme Bandeira in today’s edition which depicts this country as ‘Litter Britain’.

Inspired by Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British September Clean which continues until a week on Sunday, it reflects growing concerns about all those selfish people who discard their rubbish, detritus and now face masks without a care for the consequences or wider environment.

And while volunteers and families in countless Yorkshire communities are devoting considerable time, and effort, to collecting the litter left behind by others, this remains a thankless task.

As such, the refrain is a familiar one this weekend – “bin it or take it home” – if England’s “green and pleasant land”, immortalised by the poet William Blake, is not to disappear under a growing mountain of needless litter which has, frankly, become a national embarrassment.

And eyesore.
