Milk deliveries and their early morning revival – The Yorkshire Post says

BRITAIN’S milkmen were always the cream of the crop – their dawn deliveries as a regular as clockwork – until they, too, fell victim to the emergence and dominance of the major supermarkets.

How heartwarming, therefore, to report that there is now a resurgence in milk deliveries across Yorkshire as milk floats, and their instantly recognisable whir, return to the county’s streets in the small hours.

Three factors explain this welcome phenomenon – belated recognition that recyclable glass bottles are better for the environment than plastic containers; the unrivalled quality of fresh milk sourced from local farms and more households relying on deliveries due to the lockdown.

The sadness is that it has taken two crises – climate change and coronavirus – for people to appreciate that the modern milkman, complete with the latest apps to take orders and collect money, has a much more assured future than before the so-called ‘Blue Planet’ effect left many crying over spilled milk.
