Though this deeply spiritual service had to be broadcast online, it was still a historic moment as the new Archbishop picked up his historic Braganza crozier in an empty Minster.

And the symbolic opening of the West Door, signifying that the Church is open to the world, was a subtle change in protocol to herald the advent of a new era in York.

Not only did he previously serve in the Diocese of Wakefield, but he returns to Yorkshire at a time when the bond between the CoE and its parishioners remains a special one and we look forward to his wisdom and guidance on all matters from theology to the civic role of the Church.
