Our tribute to police killed in line of duty – The Yorkshire Post says

IT was the most tragic irony of timing that annual events to mark National Police Memorial Day, the annual chance to remember officers who have fallen in the line of duty, took place just 48 hours after Sergeant Matt Ratana was shot dead in a custody suite at a Croydon police station.

As such, the poignancy was palpable as senior politicians, and policing leaders, took part in their own socially distanced ceremonies in London while the Prince of Wales delivered a heartfelt – and moving – tribute on behalf of the whole country.

And it was another reminder of the daily dangers that police officers, and their colleagues, face across Britain while, at the same time, coming under the most intense political and public scrutiny if they momentarily step out of line. They are Britain’s first line of defence, but should be reassured by the support shown by the people in Yorkshire, a county which will never forget its own officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
