Out of touch

WITH a glowing footballing reputation, a huge bank balance and a happy wife and baby, Wayne Rooney appeared to have it all. So his behaviour over the last few months, putting so much on the line with a series of bizarre decisions on the pitch and off it, will leave football fans disappointed and angry.

His request to leave Manchester United proves he posseses a stubborn nature to rival that of his legendary boss, Sir Alex Ferguson. Rooney's extraordinary demand for the club to more than double his wages, after a series of injuries and under-par performances, shows him to be hugely out of touch with the ordinary people who follow his every move.

Most fans can only dream of living such a gilded lifestyle as Rooney's. Yet, for him, it appears not to be enough.

He would do well to remember that football is the people's game and in these troubled times there are people who scrimp and save to see him play. As a man who came from the humblest of backgrounds he should appreciate the life he has today.
