Paws for thought

"BEWARE of the dog" signs can strike dread in to the heart of many a postman as they make their way to the letterbox.

But now it seems our postal service is struggling to cope with a new

threat lurking behind the front door – that posed by an elderly pet cat

called Tiger.

A week earlier and this might have sounded like an April Fool's Day joke, but such is the supposed danger posed by the 19-year-old pet, the equivalent of 93 in human years, that the Royal Mail is now refusing to deliver post to its owner's home in Farsley, Leeds.

Apparently, the aptly-named Tiger waits behind its cat flap to pounce

on the unsuspecting postmen and has carried out three such attacks in recent weeks.

This is no laughing matter for its owner, Tracy Brayshaw, whose post has been suspended for a fortnight, leaving her to trek on a daily basis to her local sorting office.

The Royal Mail faces many challenges in today's fast-paced world.

Surely one obstacle that its pussycat postmen should be able to

overcome is the threat posed by an elderly pet cat which, according to its baffled owner, spends most of its time asleep.
